Female Lioness: San Francisco Zoo

Female Lioness San Francisco Zoo

Out of all of the animals in the animal kingdom, I have a special place in my heart for all members of the Big Cat family. Lions are interesting to me because they’re more of a social group than other members of the cat family, something that is fairly unusual (Tigers, for example, are pretty much solitary animals once they mature).

Polar Bear Sticking Tongue Out: San Francisco Zoo

Polar bear sticking his tongue out

This is a picture of a Polar Bear sticking his tongue out (not at me, I hope!) from the San Francisco Zoo a little bit ago. A couple of things about this picture stand out to me:

1. The color of the Polar Bear’s tongue is kind of mottled.

2. The skin of the Polar Bear is actually not quite as white as I would have expected. While I assume this to be an issue of the living conditions in a zoo, I think many people think the fur is going to be as white as snow.

Singapore Zoo has been the best zoo I have been to during my travels (I even liked it better than the San Diego Zoo!) Most of the animals at the zoo have fairly “natural” exhibits, which means they have a fair amount of space to roam around in.

The white tigers in this picture killed some suicidal keeper around November of 2008!

Out of all of the animals in the animal kingdom, the big cats are the ones I love the most.

Sumatran Tigers Fighting: San Francisco Zoo

This is a picture at the San Francisco Zoo of some Sumatran Tigers fighting, a picture that was made much more difficult because of the security procedures now in place because of the tiger attack a few years ago (fence, security glass, etc.).
